Four Years

On June 14, I celebrated 4 wonderful years of being married to this beautiful woman:

And Rachael, coincidentally, celebrated 4 long years of being married to this man:

To mark my merriment and her endurance, Rachael suggested that we start to switch off on the planning of our anniversaries - with her taking this one.  I'm not stupid enough to turn that one down!

We kicked it off by enjoying a pretty good dinner at Ghidotti's Italian restaurant in Park City. True to form, Rachael ordered the best thing on the menu, Pork Osso Bucco, and I bravely ventured to eat something different, and markedly less savory.

Then, Rachael guided us to a remote and dangerous spot in Midway, where we explored a volcano-like limestone formation - both of us diving from the 55 foot tall crater mouth on top of the Mount Doom-like structure into the deep and dark waters that waited below...

Oh, we're not screen-writers for The Bachelor.  OK, so we went to the Heber Crater, and after signing the necessary waivers we entered the tunnel that man has burrowed through the side of the rock.

The Heber Crater is a fun little place that nature has carved out for us - the mineral waters are soothing and warm, the crater itself is just one of those miniature hints that God has left us to remind us that this world is really a playground.  Of course, everything has it drawbacks - the crater's rules require that its visitors wear the most irritating life vests that could ever be devised - not designed to save a life, but rather to choke the life out of you.

One of the things I most enjoy about Rachael is that she really is a fun-loving, adventurous girl.  As long as the activity could not possibly threaten her in any way, she's usually up for it.  I guess that's what you get when you combine brains with playfulness (a rare combination).

After the date, we came back to our little rugrats, who had so much fun with their grandparents that they hardly knew we were gone.  Thanks Steve and Penny!

Happy anniversary, Babe - best four years EVER!  I love you; you're one of a kind.
