Liam's First Soccer Practice

I am now officially a Soccer Mom.  I've dreamed of this day!  Liam started Smart Start Soccer this spring through Park City Recreation.  It is non-competitive and supposed to be a positive first exposure to the sport.  Instead of sprints, we played Red Light Green Light and Tackle Mom.  Everything we did had a pseudonym to disguise the fact that sports is hard work and physically exhausting.  Liam was no fool, though.  Every now and then, he'd say "Mamma, I'm kind of tired of all this running!"

His shin guards kept twisting around, so we ditched them half-way through.  It's not like he's going to get kicked in the shins in non-competitive soccer.

First up, a little game of mother-son keep-away!  I'll admit, I had a blast and I think Liam did too.  Liam discovered that it always works best if you pick up the ball and run with it although I'm not sure that's legal in soccer, if I remember correctly...

Next up: "Soccer Dancing" (aka toe-taps.)  We'll start with just tapping with each foot and move on to hopping another day.

What kind of mom laughs at her son when he falls?  This one.  He was laughing too, okay?  I wasn't laughing AT him, just WITH him! Brush yourself off, son!

The knee-ups thing is tough.  I tried to get Liam to do it just holding the ball, but he likes the idea of bouncing it in the air off of his knee.  It'll take some practice.

Three years old and already doing headers!  We'll use the teflon ball as long as possible for this to preserve brain cells.

Water break!

Fix his hair, Grammy.  Hair is a very important aspect of soccer practice.

He's got a sort of swagger.

Pee-pee dance.

That would be Mamma and her friend, Dana, doing high-knees.

Tackle Mamma!

Circle up!  Good job, team.  Practice, practice, practice and Coach will bring treats next time! Liam is a natural...

Ready...and...

Kick balls!
