Friday was the big day. We rehearsed long an hard for our big moment under the lights, memorizing impossible Polish and trying to find some elusive pattern among the 752 "benedicat vos omni potenses" we had to sing in one piece. We were ready. I love how the pictures turned out during our pre-show warm-up at the hotel. Life is a circle…and look who it revolves around!
I like how we mad a human sundial.
We did a little photo shoot in our concert attire, just for fun.
Neil is a very talented photographer, so we naturally bonded over our love it.
The Party Bus ride over to the Granada for our concert was a little more subdued this time around…We were focusing on what we wanted to achieve.
My cute friends, Amanda Maloy and Bethany Dunford.
Karin Gates and Emery Smith.
And Cecil Sullivan and Tiffany Stoddard-soon-to-be-Sullivan. It was the black and white photo below that inspired them to hire me to take their Engagements, Bridals and Wedding photos. You have to start somewhere, and I'm so grateful to them for putting their faith in me (and also terrified).
Dave Reeder, a bass and professional photographer who probably should've gotten the job.
Here is the historic theater where ACDA was held. Over the course of three days, over twenty choirs sang sets of 25 minutes each. We were the only "community," non-school related choir, and were definitely one of the very best. People were stunned that we are able to get such an amazing sound with one (sometimes two) rehearsals a week.
Our performance couldn't have gone better save for one minor hick-up. During Benedictio, Dr. Allred missed one of the myriad cues. It is a minimalist piece, so only one section was supposed to come in. Everybody knew what happened and there was a weird moment where planets collided and the choir no longer drew energy from the conductor, but vice versa. There was an awkward second or so of silence that no one outside of our choir noticed, and then we all just did what we were supposed to do. Brady was so humbled at that moment; you could see it all over his face. This is a man who never, NEVER, misses a cue. He is a perfectionist. And in that moment, I think he was grateful for what we as a unit were able to achieve. Incredible and memorable musical moment.
Later on, the girls and I hit up a local vintage consignment shop where we had the best time trying on period pieces. Elizabeth even gave us a little swing-dancing show in a few of the flapper dresses.
Santa Barbara has so much charm and character. It's a hip little town with tons of great restaurants and culture. I'm hooked.
I'm kind of regretting not getting that hat. How cute is it?!
My Santa Barbara souvenir. I've already gotten my $59 dollars worth out of it ($300 originally at Nordstrom).
And here's where I decided…"Yes, it will be mine."
