The fireplace warmed the family room while our stockings dangled expectantly in front (two extra-larges and one munchkin-sized, of course). Otis Redding soulfully crooned White Christmas in the background. Wes was placing the last of the ornaments on the tree and I was just about to top the tree with our glittery gold star when what to my wondering eyes should appear... With no warning and unmistakable aplomb, Liam took one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind...and I cried.
Liam took his first big steps on December 11, and not a moment before he was ready. It actually was quite shocking to see, because he really hadn't been doing much trial and error before he whipped out the walk-across-the-room trick. Maybe he just doesn't want to do anything half-way; it's an admirable quality. Now, whenever he walks he dons an ear-to-ear toothy smile and looks up at us expectantly for assurance and nothing less than enthusiastic praise. I don't worry about his self-concept.
We caught his second attempt at walking on video and I may or may not have watched it over a dozen times.
At 13 1/2 months, our munchkin is right on schedule. Now, if we could just work on the weaning thing... It is clear that Liam does not like that idea.

"OHHHHH, the places you'll go!!!"
CONGRATULATIONS to Sweet Liam on this momentous achievement!!! Grammy (pronounced "Mimi" at this point, ha!) and Papa (which IS actually "Pa-pa") are SOOOOOOOO very proud!!!!!!!
We're so impressed with all the other wonderful words you're using too... like "yishous," when you eat something delicious, and "soss" when you touch the SOFT mink hats at TJ Maxx while Christmas shoppiing with Mama and Grammy...
SUCH a SMART, HANDSOME TALENTED BABY BOY!!!
And, great job, Mama and Dada, for the sweet and constant encouragement!
